As part of Krewella's ongoing coverage of this year's Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia for Billboard, the electronic dance music duo spent some time interviewing students and recent graduates about the issues that matter most to them.

One such subject was a recent Columbia University graduate going by the name of Mr. Doing Too Much, who was at the convention for a film he's creating called Peace of the Nation or Mr. Doing Too Much Does Politics.

He explained that he had snuck into the DNC on expired credentials. (He had also attended the Republican National Convention last week in Cleveland, but was not allowed in.) He also boasted plans to run for president in 2040 on a platform of love when he is old enough, adding, "for now, all I'm doing is dabbing." 

For all his youthful bravado, Mr. Doing Too Much did have some solid insight into the current presidential election to offer.

The star's lawyer argues her visual album and the short film it's accused of mimicking are "a textbook example" of what does not constitute copyright infringement.

Beyonce's visual album Lemonade doesn't share any meaningful similarities to the 7-minute short film it's accused of ripping off, according to a motion to dismiss filed Friday.

Independent filmmaker Matthew Fulks sued Beyonce in June, claiming her Emmy-nominated work and its trailer copied nine elements of his short film Palinoia. Those elements include "graffiti and persons with heads down," "red persons with eyes obscured," "parking garage," "feet on the street," and "side-lit ominous figures."  All of this, he argues, constitutes a similarity in the "total concept and feel" of the two works.
 
Tom Ferber, who's representing Beyonce, her company Parkwood Entertainment and HBO, says that the two projects concern "a distressed lover's pain" is too broad a similarity to be copyright infringement.

He sites Blakeman v. Disney, in which the court used as an example the hypothetical absurdity that Animal House and Rudy could be found substantially similar because they both depict college life.

"A straightforward comparison of the parties’ works provides a textbook example of what does not constitute a legally cognizable claim of infringement," states the motion. "The SAC describes elements and features of the works in abstractions so broad as to be meaningless — because, as even a cursory review of the parties’ works makes clear, at the level of copyrightable expression the works are markedly dissimilar."
 
Palinoia tells the story of a "tumultuous relationship" between a white man and woman that has ended, according to the motion, meanwhile Lemonade is the story of a woman progressing through the a series of emotions that "evoke the Kubler-Ross stages of grief" in the context of African-American culture. (You can compare for yourself by watching Palinoia in full here, and the Lemonade trailer here.)

Fulks claims he was contacted about a potential gig directing a video for MS MR, which is signed to former defendant Columbia, and sent a link to his film in response. Just a few months later, he claims, Lemonade began filming.

A hearing is currently set for August 25.

Drake's album 'Views' and single "One Dance" lead the Billboard 200 & Hot 100 for a 10th week each, respectively. 

 

As previously reported, Drake's album Views spends a 10th week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (dated July 30), while the set's "One Dance" (featuring WizKid and Kyla) likewise tops the Billboard Hot 100 for a 10th week (with both reigns logged nonconsecutively).

How rare is such a double domination of that length? Dating to Aug. 17, 1963, when the Billboard 200 became a combined ranking of stereo and mono albums (the Hot 100 launched Aug. 4, 1958), Drake is just the fourth artist to boast an album that has led the Billboard 200 for a least 10 weeks while a single from that set has ruled the Hot 100 also for at least 10 weeks.

 

Here's the exclusive club, including one such album, by Santana, that generated two songs that led the Hot 100 for at least 10 weeks each; Drake, meanwhile, is the first solo male to make the list (as Santana is a band, fronted by Carlos Santana):

Thus, just four acts can claim albums that have both topped the Billboard 200 for at least 10 weeks and yielded singles that have commanded the Hot 100 for at least 10 frames. Notably, two of those albums, Drake's Views and Adele's 25, have gained entrance to the category in 2016 (first on March 12, to be exact, when 25 spent its 10th week atop the Billboard 200, after "Hello" had wrapped its run in charge of the Hot 100 in January). That's not entirely a coincidence.

Dating to the Billboard 200 dated Dec. 13, 2014, the chart has measured multi-metric consumption, encompassing album sales, on-demand streaming and digital track sales; from May 25, 1991 through Dec. 6, 2014, the chart had ranked pure album sales, according to Nielsen Music (while, before that, the survey was based on ranked reports submitted by retailers).

Thus, for more than a year-and-a-half (since Dec. 13, 2014), an album's Billboard 200 ranking has been directly informed by the streaming and sales activity of its tracks. As "One Dance" and "Hello" have dominated in streaming and sales, they have, in turn, directly helped Views and 25 control the Billboard 200. 

Comparatively, Santana's Supernatural and Houston's The Bodyguard led the Billboard 200 based only on their pure sales, even if they obviously were, independently in terms of chart methodology, bolstered by the success of their monstrous hit singles.

Ultimately, any way the impressive numbers are crunched, only four albums in the last half-century-plus have reached such rare chart heights -- with Drake's Views becoming the latest such smash this week.

Law enforcement officials confirmed to the AP Thursday morning that legendary musician Prince died of an opioid overdose.

The performer was found dead in his Minnesota home on Apr. 21. An autopsy was completed on Apr. 22 but no cause of death was announced. At the time, the medical examiner’s office said it would “not release information until the exam is complete and all results are obtained.”

The AP’s report follows weeks of speculation that Prince was struggling with an addiction to opioid painkillers. TMZ had reported that Prince had been treated for a drug overdose six days before his death.

Denver Broncos kicker, and North Penn alum Brandon McManus held a football skills camp Sunday at his old Montgomery County high school.
