Eagles CEO says coach following Kelly needs people skills

Eagles CEO says coach following Kelly needs people skills

Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie talks to reporters during an NFL football press conference, Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, in Philadelphia. The Eagles fired head coach Chip Kelly with one game left in his third season.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- In the end, Chip Kelly created a poor culture and a beatable scheme.

A day after firing Chip Kelly, CEO Jeffrey Lurie made it clear he wants a coach who can relate to his players and everyone else in the building.

"You've got to open your heart to players and everybody you want to achieve peak performance," Lurie said Wednesday. "I would call it a style of leadership that values information and all of the resources that are provided and at the same time values emotional intelligence. I think in today's world, a combination of all those factors creates the best chance to succeed."

Kelly didn't have close relationships with many of his players, and former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy and cornerback Brandon Boykin were critical of his personality after he traded them.

Lurie said he wants "someone who interacts and communicates very clearly with everyone he works with."

Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson, who was Kelly's first draft pick, said his former coach was considered "unapproachable" by many players.

"I want to see a guy who really cares about his players and isn't so set in his ways so we can all go in the same direction," Johnson said. "I think Chip had good intentions. I just think that he didn't have a good way to go about it, and sometimes it came off a little bit standoffish toward y'all. That's just his way. I don't know if he had anybody to confide in but I think all in all, I know he cared about the players."

Kelly was fired after missing the playoffs for the second straight season and failing in his first year in charge of personnel. The Eagles entered the season with Super Bowl expectations, but are 6-9.

Players prepared for the season finale at the New York Giants on Sunday with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur serving as interim coach, largely going about business as usual.

"I had a good relationship with Chip. We communicated well together and maybe that was just me," linebacker Connor Barwin said. "Obviously you want a great leader, you want somebody that knows the game obviously very well, someone that can relate to the players, somebody the players can trust."

Quarterback Sam Bradford, who could be a free agent after the season, said he still wants to return next year despite all the uncertainty.

"Chip was great to me. It's tough to lose him," Bradford said.

Lurie said he decided to fire Kelly before the end of the season to get a jump start on a coaching search and meet with players to talk to them about the decision. He said he met with players as a group on Wednesday and had smaller meetings planned with them later in the day.

"It was a clear and important decision that had to be made," he said, adding that he didn't offer to keep Kelly on as the coach and strip him of personnel control.

Howie Roseman, who was general manager before Kelly insisted on making all the decisions, will remain in his role as the executive vice president of football operations and oversee the personnel department headed by Tom Donahoe. The former Bills and Steelers GM is the new senior director of player personnel.

Lurie doesn't plan to hire a GM. Roseman, Donahoe and the new head coach will manage the roster with a "collaborative" effort, he said.

Despite a losing record, the Eagles could have won the NFC East by finishing 8-8. But they were eliminated with a loss at home to Washington on Saturday.

Lurie said he fired Kelly based on an assessment of the last three years, not a string of recent losses.

"It was more the lack of progress and the trajectory where we were going," he said.

Lurie acknowledged giving Kelly full control of personnel decisions last January was a mistake. Lurie said for the first time that Kelly demanded full control so he gave it to him so he would be "accountable for his decisions." Until this point, Kelly had said it was Lurie's decision - not his - to oversee all player moves.

Kelly quickly tore apart a winning team and made several bold moves that backfired.

Since March 2014, Kelly released three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver DeSean Jackson, traded McCoy, didn't re-sign 2014 Pro Bowl wideout Jeremy Maclin, cut two-time Pro Bowl guard Evan Mathis and traded quarterback Nick Foles and a 2016 second-round draft pick for Bradford.

He also gave big money in free agency to running back DeMarco Murray and cornerback Byron Maxwell.

Murray has been a bust and Maxwell has underperformed. Kelly even signed Tim Tebow, but released him after he won the competition for the No. 3 quarterback job.

Philadelphia missed the postseason in 2014 following a 9-3 start and were 7-12 in Kelly's last 19 games.
Kelly famously said on the sideline during a rout over the Giants in October 2014: "Culture will beat scheme every day."

It turns out players lost faith in his innovative approach and defenses caught up to his up-tempo offense.

Eagles fire coach Chip Kelly with 1 game left in 3rd season

Eagles fire coach Chip Kelly with 1 game left in 3rd season

NFL football team's practice facility, Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, in
Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie announced Tuesday he released head coach Chip Kelly, who also oversaw personnel decisions.

Kelly was in his third year with the Eagles, and after he went 10-6 his first two seasons, the team struggled this year. Philadelphia is 6-9 and Saturday's loss to the Redskins eliminated the team from postseason contention.

"We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward," Lurie said in his statement.

The Eagles also released vice president of player personnel Ed Marynowitz. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur will serve as the interim head coach for Sunday's season finale against the Giants.

Kelly led the Eagles to an NFC East Division title during his first season as an NFL coach in 2013, but the former Oregon sideline general made headlines the following offseason when he played a part in the releasing of star wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

The team limped down the stretch to another 10-6 season in 2014 but missed the playoffs. After that, Lurie gave Kelly more control over personnel, but the coach's moves — including a trade of star running back LeSean McCoy — only resulted in a drop-off of talent.

Lurie, who will speak with the media Wednesday at noon, also released a letter on the Eagles website explaining his decision to release Kelly. The letter stated Lurie, Don Smolenski and Howie Roseman would head the search for a new coach.

Top Music Studios For Kids And Adults In Philly: Gilbert F. Lomax Jr. Online Interview by Van Stone, Editor/Publish Philadelphia Front Page News frontpagenews1@yahoo.com

Top Music Studios For Kids And Adults In Philly: Gilbert F. Lomax Jr. Online Interview by Van Stone, Editor/Publisher Philadelphia Front Page News frontpagenews1@yahoo.com

Gilbert F. Lomax Jr., Music Master Professional, Professional Deejay and Male Model.

As promised we caught up with Gilbert F. Lomax Jr. and his partner Doris J. Hall-James for a follow-up interview. Both Lomax Jr. and Hall-James are music professionals. In this interview the Philadelphia Front Page News-Magazine reflects Lomax Jr.’s growth as a person, writer, producer, and male model.

Talented guy Gil Lomax Jr. can rightfully claim the title of Philly’s music's lead music producer and deejay.  Lomax Jr. had no trouble winning the hearts of many fans with his co-release “Knocks Me Off My Feet,” catapulting him to become West Philadelphia’s top-go to music master professional artist. Here’s our interview of Lomax Jr.  He is known for well-produced beats and arrangements in music industry.

Philadelphia Front Page News Newspaper: So, tell everyone the address of the music studio location.

Gilbert F. Lomax Jr.: The Simply Music Studio is located at 251 South 60th Street Philadelphia, PA 19139.

PFPN: Since you and Doris J. Hall-James are master music professionals, just what type of Deejay are you? And what’s the name of the group for your entertainment company?

Gil Lomax Jr.: I am a mobile Deejay in the community.  The name of my entertainment company is called Simply Old School in which we play old school music. My annual events include the Creek picnic, the Creek cabaret and the Bikers Annual old timers’ young timers reunion keeping the memory of Vicky Gadson and Spider alive. Hosted by Rickey Gadson.

PFPN: Who are included in the events? And how long have you been Deejaying?

Lomax Jr.: All events include young and older adults. I have been a DJ for five years doing block parties, church events in Philadelphia, surrounding areas and South Jersey.

PFPN: About how long have you participated in music engineering activity in a studio?  And which catalog of studio music is your specialty?

Gil: I have been engineering, writing, and producing, music for five years and have multiple songs in my music catalog.  My catalogs consist of R&B, Jazz, Gospel, Pop, Blues and Funk. I am a member of Broadcast Music Association (BMI) and own publishing company Glomax Music. And by the way, I own my own studio.  I am the President of the GreenRoom Audio Sound Studio (GRASS).

PFPN: When did you notice something was lacking in the urban section of the city and what did you plan to do about it?  Did you organize anything specifically for youth, adults, or seniors and if so, what was the result?

Gil: For years I have noticed that in the 60th street area – 60th street corridor there were no services provided for inspiring and aspiring musicians young or old.  No visible recording studios in the West Philadelphia Area along 60th street corridor.  Being a musician myself I recognized the need for music services to support local talent.

PFPN: What else do you want the readers to know about the Simply Music Studio, its mission and future?

Lomax Jr.: Although Simply Music is a non-profit organization the overhead cost for the operation of the business is met by donations and contributions and minimal fees to the customers.

The site at 60th street is still new but the demand for music service is so great that I can foresee in the near future students pursing continued education careers in the music industry…possibly with stronger support by our Simply Music Studio.

Ronda Williams, Plus-size Model, from West Philly, PA, USA is the newest Van Stone Black Women Models Fashion and Beauty Curve by Shera Minor frontpagenews1@yahoo.com

Above: Ronda Williams, Plus-size Power Model and husband Tom Redmond and family.

“Whenever anyone watches the women model show, they should hope to see a Ronda Williams 'I there,'" says Van Stone, Editor and Publisher for Philadelphia Front Page News Magazine and Media Key 307 Magazine.

Ronda Williams, Plus Size Model and Van Stone, Magazine Owner are Philadelphia natives who knew one another in Philadelphia, PA since teens.  "I know that fashion is important to the geography of Philly— especially Plus-size fashion — selling a both reality and fantasy.  But I think that it would be beautiful and smart to allow the natural beautiful Black Woman in. … I love it that I discovered Ronda Williams’ interest in becoming a professional model with me. I would also love for Williams to show the world that beauty is beauty regardless of weight or to sizes. Ronda has always been a natural gorgeous human being. "

Williams, who has been called lovely all of her life, is now a Plus-size Black woman model with Stone leading the push for body-type diversity in fashion and beauty.

Williams has built a name for her. This past May, she was one of the beautiful first plus-sized women to marry and catch the eye of fashion photographers in Philly. Williams, who is now married to Tom Redmond since the big wedding day will model for the Van Stone brand- Philadelphia Front Page News and Media Key 307 as a magazine cover woman.

Ronda Williams will get the big attention from all plus-size image onloookers.

She will be featured as a new star cover woman because "They just don't use enough talented Black girls who are very comfortable about the power of beauty within," Stone said.

"Our empowered Women of Color already face obstacles and barriers because they are a plus-size or not. But Ronda already very successful as a leader because she has the natural talent to be a professional model," said Van Stone. "She can own her craft and far deliver as a fashion, beauty and yes, even sexy model. She’s my friend and always has been my good friend.”

Next up, Ronda Williams hopes to get the positive image and beauty power campaign going as an ambassador for positive Black women nationally. We believe that Van Stone will be a great help to affect Williams’ positive image for women of color.
