Marcus and Markieff Morris Twins Give Philly A Reason To Watch The Phoenix Suns Make It To The NBA Finals. By Van Stone frontpagenews1@yahoo.com (267) 293-9201
Marcus Morris and Markieff Morris played together
for three years on the Kansas Jayhawks. They'll are NBA stars reunited as
teammates on the Phoenix Suns.
Now that we have that out of the way, just like saying that the Sixers are going nowhere fast this year in the NBA, if you are a fan of exciting Philly home grown pro basketball you will stick with me in my belief that the Phoenix Suns will make it all the way to the NBA Championship. This will happen because of the Morris twins.
Now that the NBAs’ Suns have made roster space for Marcus and Markeiff Morris it just makes a whole lot of sense that Phoenix will make it to the finals.
At the end of last season and start of this season, the Phoenix Suns paired the Morris twins to both come off the bench and at times start making these two deadly weapons.
When Marcus and Markeiff left Kansas, under Coach Bill Self, lots of Philly sports fans were hoping that the Sixers should acquire them, as far back as the 2011 draft. But what end up happening is that the in the long run game is that the Suns snatched them both up, in order to get the best out of both of them.
As I watched the Morris twins last season, I thought that both were fulfilling the good potential of first-round draft status. I mean, playing in the NBA is never a cake walk for the best of the best. Some sports analyst figured that just because Marcus and Markeiff were separated as team mates for the first time in their basketball dream careers they were affected in a weakening way. Not the case at all. The Morris twins were now pros. And they were up to the task of being the best at playing ball regardless. When they were reunited as Suns teammates last season, there was more adjustment to the Markieff' game. Meanwhile, the Marcus game became sharper in the rotation. This season started with the end of the rookie status and the possibility of the twins being the Suns' surprising forwards. And as reserves both did very well getting off to smooth starts.
Markieff became Western Conference Player of the Week from a bench role. Marcus’ game was becoming stronger and faster as he was making his way.
Now, the Suns are experiencing much more from the twins. With the ball compliment of each other and their team mates. Returning from the bench with great defense and offense. Working like top individual players who just so happen to be twins on the same squad.
Markieff’s games were great when he had three strong games posting 43 points and 20 rebounds off the bench. Marcus is in his brother’s ear giving him the confidence that the Morris power game can be inside more often. Marcus games were just as strong when he has three strong games racking up 44 points and 14 rebounds in the same stretch. Marcus can play the small-forward spot or the power forward spot like when he was back in their Kansas days as next to Markieff at center.
Since Marcus' became a Sun Markeiff just clicked right back in place the way it was between the two. They have the skill to know where each other is. They are great at anticipating moves from one another.
"We're just playing hard first and foremost," Marcus said. "Everything will come. Offensively, we're good players. Defensively, we're smart. We just come with energy. It's been there. We're just getting into the groove more and more and more and different stuff is going to happen."
The Phoenix Suns are about 30 to 35 games away from
making the play offs. And I’m sure with the Morris twins on board now, scoring,
rebounding, and defending quicker it looks like the Suns are going all the way
to the NBA finals.
